PROJECT PROPOSAL
Hearing loss after spinal anesthesia -incidence, etiology, persistence, reversibility

Study goals:

1. Evaluation of the post spinal anesthesia hearing loss level and establish the incidence, type and its spontaneous or therapeutically reversibility
2. Establish a correlation between the diameter of the needle used and the hearing loss incidence
3. Establish a correlation between the numbers of spinal anesthesias repeated on the same patient and the hearing loss incidence
4. Establish a correlation between the type of anesthetic used and the hearing loss incidence
5. Establish a correlation between the incidence of the post spinal anesthesia cephalalgia and the hearing loss level
6. A great importance is given to the factors with great statistical meaning (p<0,01) in the apparition of the hearing loss and we keep in mind the possibility of extending the studies on animals to elucidate the mechanism through which this factors interfere in the apparition of hearing loss
7. The premise of establish a collaboration between Faculty of Medicine Galatz and the university centers from Europe and USA exist and keep in mind that at this hour different type of needles for spinal anesthesia are tested on a international plane.
8. The description of a predictable score for the apparition of post spinal anesthesia hearing loss and eventually a classification of the post spinal anesthesia hearing loss level

Research activities :

- The patient will benefit from a complete otorinolaringology exam and a laminar tonal audiogram before and after the operation like this:- With 3 to 6 hours before the spinal anesthesia is performed a laminar tonal audiogram and on 24, 48 hours after the operation is performed a laminar tonal audiogram.
The characteristics of the study:prospective, randomized, double blindness.

The way to put to a good use the results :

It will be done by taking part on the round tables, sessions of communication, artices, congresses.
